Daunte, to go with some of your posts on JC Ball. There is no grade checks or Clearinghouse like the NCAA has on its athletics for JC ball. Depending on the State that you are looking at it is for the most part only being 18 or having a GED for being able to play in JC ball whether that be Basketball, Football or Baseball in almost any state. Now to move on to being eligible for DI or DII you will need your AA to move on. I am not familiar with DIII or NAIA rules but I am assuming they are somewhat close to those of NCAA DI or DII. Now if a student is taking only 5 units he will not be taking up eligibility. You need to take 12 units to take up eligibility. For DI once you take one quarter or semester of 12 units your clock starts to tick, for DII you need to keep that clock ticking with 12 units. However, I do agree with you on making sure the correct message is being given to these young men. If we have people lying to them then that is not OK however if there is a truthful message going out then I think it is a great way to go. I come from CA where there is JC sports so it is very different up here. But Semi Pro is successful up here because a lot of the players would be JC players in other states.
Then when it comes to teams in the NW here, I grew up in CA and was a Basketball player in College but with the Semi Pro leagues here in WA and OR I think that the new PFL is a great step in the right Direction. I played for one of these PFL teams this past year and am excited to be back in the mix of a league that will bring teams back together and make things better. We will have to see how things work out and see if it will bring a more unified champion out of the NW. I am hoping for the best.
Also to all of you who are dissing the PDFL I do understand where you are coming from because I agree with almost everything that you are saying. However, shouldn't we be looking for better ways to help the PDFL which could possibly be an outlet for some of the really good PFL players to earn some money with football. If the PDFL expands and happens to be a place where players are picked up to play in the CFL, UFL or at the seldom chance the NFL wouldn't that be great.
So my opinion is lets try to work together to make minor league football in the NW better and if the PDFL happens to be a better chance for players to move on then lets stand behind that. I have been lucky and able to make money playing basketball in Europe it was for a brief stint when I was young but led me into the workforce with an understanding of how hard you needed to work and knowing that I was not going to make a lifetime out of sports. I do think that anything we can do to get the football players that we have in the NW to move into the right direction whether that be college or possibly pro football in that minor type situation then we need to do the best that we can.
